The National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) Unit of Mahishadal Girls' College was established on 13 February 2006, initially on an open‑vacancy, trial basis. Today the Unit is affiliated with 6 Bengal Girls' (I) Coy NCC, Midnapore, functioning under the NCC Headquarters at Kharagpur, West Bengal — with Prof. Niyati Rekha Sharma of the Department of Sociology serving as the overall in‑charge of the Unit as Caretaker/CT. Presently 36 cadets train under the Unit, nurtured through disciplined parades, drills, camps and community initiatives that build confidence, teamwork and civic awareness.

The N.C.C. Unit of Mahishadal Girls' College was established on 13 February 2006 on an open‑vacancy basis, initially on a trial basis. The Unit is affiliated with 6 Bengal Girls' (I) Coy NCC, Midnapore, under the NCC Headquarters at Kharagpur, West Bengal. At present, Assistant Professor Niyati Rekha Sharma, Department of Sociology, serves as the overall in‑charge of the College N.C.C. Unit as Caretaker/CT.

About the N.C.C.

A Tri‑Services National Organisation

Established under the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948, the NCC is a Tri‑Services organisation comprising the Army, Navy and Air Wings, with its headquarters in New Delhi. The NCC seeks to groom young citizens into disciplined, patriotic, responsible and socially committed individuals, and to create a pool of trained and motivated youth capable of providing leadership in all walks of life.

The goal of the National Cadet Corps is to inculcate patriotism and a sense of dedication to society among the student community. Through structured training, camps and disciplined routine, cadets are shaped into confident, service‑minded individuals who carry the values of the Corps well beyond their time in uniform, while the Unit encourages young people to consider a career in the Armed Forces.

National & Institutional Observances

The N.C.C. Unit of Mahishadal Girls' College actively participates in the observance of Republic Day, Independence Day, N.C.C. Day, International Yoga Day, International Women's Day, World Environment Day, Swachhata Pakhwada, and Communal Harmony and Flag Day. Cadets regularly participate in march‑pasts, rifle drills, cultural programmes, patriotic performances, street plays, rallies and public awareness campaigns.

Local & Institutional Engagement

The Unit plays an active role in major local and institutional events, including College Foundation Day, the Mahishadal Book Fair, Ratha Yatra celebrations, Vivek Chetana Utsav, the Birth Anniversary of Satish Samanta, and commemorations of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda. Cadets also extend support in traffic and crowd management during major public events.

Community Service & Social Awareness

Cadets are actively engaged in community service and social awareness initiatives concerning Nasha Mukt Bharat, Tobacco‑Free India, tuberculosis elimination, women's empowerment and gender issues, environmental protection, pollution control and cleanliness. Through street plays, rallies and interpersonal communication, they disseminate awareness among the public. The Unit has also undertaken cleanliness drives under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the college campus and surrounding public spaces, including riverbanks, water bodies, railway stations and hospitals.

Camps, Training & Adventure

The Unit has organised and participated in marathons promoting women's emancipation and has provided facilities for hosting Combined Annual Training Camps (CATC). Cadets regularly participate in a range of training and adventure camps that build resilience, leadership and national integration, among other camps.

Achievements

The achievements of the Unit are reflected in the active participation, leadership and community service of its cadets, several of whom have received prestigious recognition, including the Governor's Medal. Through discipline, service and leadership, the N.C.C. Unit continues to contribute significantly to the holistic development of students and the social and civic life of the community.
